St. Nicholas Catholic High School

Sixth Form - The UCAS Process

The majority of students entering the Sixth Form intend to proceed to university. In St Nicholas Sixth Form, we pride ourselves on the quality of teaching and personal support that facilitates our students’ goals. Each Year 13 Form tutor oversees the student’s application to UCAS. The school is asked to provide a reference in support of each application, approved by the Head teacher, Mr Kelly.

The UCAS process involves preparing students, among other points, to enable them to:

- Search for courses, including Degrees, Foundations Degrees and Higher National Diplomas
- Understand entry requirements and the UCAS tariff
- Go on a school visit to the UCAS Higher Education Convention at the Liverpool University in the June of Year 12
- Complete the application form
- Apply to Oxford, Cambridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine or veterinaryscience.
- Respond to decisions from Universities
- If necessary, understand UCAS extra for applicants without offers
- If necessary, understand UCAS Clearing at Results Day
- Understand student finance.
